Eraserhead (1977) (15) 85mins

Screening as part of Kino's David Lynch's retrospective.

Henry (John Nance) resides alone in a bleak apartment surrounded by industrial gloom. When he discovers that an earlier fling with Mary X (Charlotte Stewart) left her pregnant, he marries the expectant mother and has her move in with him. Things take a decidedly strange turn when the couple's baby turns out to be a bizarre lizard-like creature that won't stop wailing. Other characters, including a disfigured lady who lives inside a radiator, inhabit the building and add to Henry's troubles.

Starring John Nance, Charlotte Stewart, Hal Landon Jr., Brad Keeler, Gill Dennis, Toby Keeler, Thomas Coulson, John Monez, Darwin Joston, Neil Moran, Raymond Walsh, Jennifer Lynch, Judith Anna Roberts, Laurel Near, Jack Fisk, Jean Lange, Allen Joseph and Jeanne Bates.

David Lynch is an American filmmaker and screenwriter who is known for his uniquely disturbing and mind-bending visual work, with his films combining the cheerfully mundane with the shockingly macabre. Although Lynch has never received an Oscar (he has received 3 nominations for Best Director) in 2019 he was awarded an Academy Honary Award in 2019. He has won both the Palme D'Or and the Best Directors Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Lion  award for lifetime achievement at the Venice Film Festival.
