The Mercy (12A) 102mins

Following his Oscar nominated film The Theory of Everything, James Marsh directs the incredible true story of Donald Crowhurst, an amateur sailor who competed in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in the hope of becoming the first person in history to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe without stopping. With an unfinished boat and his business and house on the line, Donald leaves his wife, Clare and their children behind, hesitantly embarking on an adventure on his boat the Teignmouth Electron.

Starring Colin Firth, Rachel Weisz, David Thewlis, Ken Stott, Jonathan Bailey and Simon Chandler.

'a remarkable story, stylishly told... Firth is terrific'  Total Film

‘Colin Firth is superb’  Daily Mail

'Firth's best, most intent performance of the past several years'  Daily Telegraph

‘This is a deep, intelligent portrait of a man with quixotic ideas of making his name, and a man whose soul frayed at sea’  Daily Telegraph

‘The film is as much about Britishness, class and codes of honour as it is about sailing’  The Independent

‘Meltdown measured by the cubic millimetre: that's what Firth gives and it's perfect. This is a sea voyage in which we truly navigate by a star’  Financial Times

‘The Mercy is a powerful and compelling story told with care and compassion by a brilliant cast’  Radio Times
