The Wind Rises (2013) (PG) 127mins

Continuing our Studio Ghibli Festival at Kino Rye - tickets £9.50.

Hayao Miyazaki's Oscar winning The Wind Rise, a captivating tale for audiences of all ages, is screening at Kino Rye on Sunday 18th, Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd July.

Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful aeroplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Short-sighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world's most innovative and accomplished aeroplane designers.

This beautifully drawn film chronicles the boyhood dreams and life of Jiro Horikoshi. Depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan's plunge into war, it is also a tale of friendship and love: Jiro meets and falls in love with Nahoko, and grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo.

Writer and director Hayao Miyazaki pays tribute to engineer Jiro Horikoshi and author Tatsuo Hori in this epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.

A Studio Ghibli Film with the voices of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Martin Short, Stanley Tucci, Mandy Patinkin, Mae Whitman, Werner Herzog, Jennifer Grey and William H. Macy.

‘a truly wonderful film from the greatest animator the world has ever – and probably will ever – know’  Jonathan Ross, Radio Times
